Writing, Editing, and Publishing process for 2021-22 Fellows Project
I've had time to get some writing in these past two weekends. I have some really exciting ideas for the book, and I can't wait to get to those parts. In fact, I am so excited about them that I'm struggling to get through the not-so-fun introduction. I am working on planning interviews with a few authors, to hear some insight on the whole process. Ms. Carsley recommended a few options, and I will be asking my neighbor soon to sit down with him.
There isn't too much to report this time, I'm just zoning in on writing, getting to know my characters, and knocking out chapters.

This is my first post as an official fellows!
Last week, I met with Ms. Carsley and Mr. FC to present my fellows project (can be found under Milestones). I talked about Scrivener, my notes, and making more progress throughout the year. They both gave me great advice on things I should read and what to be wary of throughout the writing process. For example, the book shouldn't just have a step-by-step flow. Instead, it should be more free flowing, with a series of events that work well together- it can't be forced. I decided My Neverland will be shaped around the setting. On another note, to help get the flow of my book going, I have been taking Voice Memos during my car rides. I talk about where the book is going to go next, and then I usually go on a rant about all of the twists and turns it could take. I have come up with some of my best ideas this way. For example, last time, during an 18 minute voice memo, I decided that Shelby and James would kiss, Danny would see, and their trust would be broken. In addition, remember how I said the plot follows the setting? Well, what if the creatures they face in each region of the map are bound to that region and cannot leave it? Therefore, when they leave that region, they are free of the creature it contained, but they are in another's realm. In fact, those creatures are Neverland's subjects turned bad: fairies, mermaids, etc. Jezebel sucked the life out of the people and the island, turning them into monsters. |
