To begin the writing process, I have been researching tips and tricks on how to write a good novel. I thought I would "share the wealth" to those who are also interested in becoming an author. Below is my summary of Masterclass's "10 Rules for Writing a Good Novel".1. Read other Material. -Reading other books is the best way to develop your writing style -Those authors are like invisible mentors 2. Make Checklists. -Think about what in the story motivates you & write it down -Create checklists containing vital points in the story, that you would like to include 3. Form Good Habits. -Set aside a specific time of the day for writing. Keep it consistent. -It is important to stick to deadlines. 4. Use Time Wisely. -plan how much you would like to accomplish during one session -2,000 words per session is the average goal 5. Build Relationship with an Editor. -A strong relationship with your editor is important to the success of the novel 6. Try not to stress over first-draft. -Let the creative juices flow. -Worry about the story, not the grammar 7. Look for surprises in second-draft. -Find key ideas or motifs that reoccur in the story & try to incorporate it in more of the book 8. Start with strong character backstories. -It is important to create captivating characters that the reader will be interested in 9. Don't worry about commercial appeal. -Worry about your story, not about what a critic would think -Don't worry about the genre. You can create your own. Don't create boundaries for yourself. 10. Don't follow one set of rules set out by other authors. -Find your own voice "10 Rules for Writing Good Novel." MasterClass, www.masterclass.com/articles/
