Writing, Editing, and Publishing process for 2021-22 Fellows Project
Following the Fellows 2021 Leadership Lab and meeting with my mentor, Mr. FC, I have a solid grasp on what my Summer Requirements demand and how I should begin the writing process. It is my goal to finish my first rough draft of the novel by the time school starts in the Fall. During the first week of Summer, I will finish an outline of the plot and an in-depth character list (with descriptions). My first stepping stone is to download the Scrivener Software that Mr. FC recommended for me. It will help me maintain organization throughout the writing process and will be an efficient way to communicate my work back-and-forth from myself to editors, publishers, or Mr. FC.
Mr. FC and I discussed what my overall goal was for my novel and what the final product would look like. I hope that it will be a published novel that could one day possibly be sold in a bookstore or on Amazon, as well as be the first book of a series. Mr. FC also recommended that I read Save the Cat to learn how to properly structure my plot and maintain a consistent flow of events. My biggest concern for the writing process is that I will have writers block or I will fall behind in my summer requirements. To prevent this, I will set weekly word-count deadlines and withstand from editing my work until I have completely finished the creative writing process. This way, I will focus on the creative part, rather than the proofreading part. In the future, I hope to hire a proofreader and a layout design specialist who will help in the final publishing process. Once I have downloaded Scrivener, my writing process will begin and I will start with Chapter 1. I am so excited to begin this journey, and I am so grateful for Mr. FC's and Ms. Carsley's help!
